Welcome to the Medicine-Pediatrics Residency Program
This four year training program is designed to provide a comprehensive educational experience in both internal medicine and pediatrics such that graduating residents will have acquired the knowledge, skills, and attitudes essential to the effective practice of these two disciplines. Graduates of the program will be able to function as generalists in practice or in academic settings, but they will also be sufficiently prepared to enter fellowship training areas shared by the two disciplines.

Created on a trial basis in 1989 the combined internal medicine and pediatrics program was formally constituted in 1994 with two residents and has flourished since then. The program is in the process of expanding to a full complement of 16 residents. Since 2006, the program has matched three residents per year. The University of Utah Med Peds Program is one of only a few combined Med Peds programs in the western United States. The Departments of Pediatrics and Medicine have created a unique experience in this cooperative effort to provide the region with an excellent combined residency program.
This program has been constructed on the foundation of two very strong programs in internal medicine and pediatrics. The program provides each medicine-pediatrics resident with the same exceptional core skills and experiences as the categorical internal medicine and pediatrics residents while offering them the opportunity to explore their personal interests during the joint medicine-pediatrics ambulatory subspecialty care block rotations that are scheduled every third month during the second, third and fourth years. This program structure allows adequate time to meet subspecialty and core requirements while allowing each resident the freedom to formulate their schedule to suit their individual needs and career goals.
